Above is a Citroen Saxo VTR. The vehicle has damage on the O/S/F and is subsequently classed as a category C. It would appear impact was on the N/S/F corner of the car thus damaging the headlight, wing and bonnet. There are scratches on the bumper but this is re-usable. The radiator is leaking so attention in this area will also be required. Air bags have not been deployed. I have taken photographs of the chassis rail behind the N/S/F headlamp and as you can see this is untouched, there is no damage. All the damage is of a cosmetic nature and repairs are minimal and swift. When the car was collected the battery was flat, however it started promptly with jump leads.

The car comes fitted with a Toad alarm system which is fully operational. The remote control also operates the central  locking. The vehicle is equipped with power steering, electric windows, sunroof etc. Because of the damage I am unable to road test this vehicle. Once it is roadworthy I don't foresee there being any mechanical issues. There are no problems starting the engine, and once started you get the feeling that there is a lot of power under the bonnet. All gears engage without crunching and the clutch takes up smoothly. Footbrake is solid and the hand brake secures the vehicle when stationary. There is no spare wheel available.

A check on the DVLA website shows this car still has a valid road fund licence. It is possible that MOT and tax disc could be acquired as duplicates.

Insurance categories explained.

ABI  (Association of British Insurers) Categories

Category B Vehicle is a Salvaged Vehicle, which is so structurally damaged, or devoid of parts that it is not possible to repair it economically or safely. A Dealer who purchases a Category B Vehicle (a "Category B Dealer") shall be allowed to remove salvageable parts, and shall then be required to dismantle the Category B Vehicle and crush the shell, frame and chassis in accordance with ABI guidelines. Air bags and seat components must be properly disposed of in accordance with manufacturers instructions, the insurance industry requires that these items must never be resold.

The processing of Category B Salvage must comply with the guidelines displayed in the "Code of Practice for the Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage" (ABI Code of Practice) issued by Motor Conference. (See 10.2.1 of this Document)

Carworld HQ  will not sell this category of vehicle at anytime.

Category C Vehicle is a Salvaged Vehicle, which is damaged to the extent that the retail cost of repair to the vehicle exceeds the retail pre-accident value thereof. The reserve or stating price set for this type of  vehicle will take this criteria into consideration. Unless otherwise stated these vehicles are sold without logbooks. A VIC will be required in order to apply for a logbook. If you require assistance in obtaining these documents please contact me.

Category D Vehicle is a Salvaged Vehicle, which is damaged to the extent that the retail cost of repair to the vehicle does not exceed the retail pre-accident value thereof.

Category X Vehicle is a vehicle which has been subject to an insurance claim but which has sustained minimal or nil damage or which may have been repaired in accordance to manufacturers specifications, and therefore categorisation as per the Code of Practice for the Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage does not apply.
